Gregg Hull Announces Plan to Sell Off New Mexico’s Health Clinics to the Highest Bidder
His plan to allow Wall Street to control the healthcare of Main Street will cost time, dollars, and lives
ALBUQUERQUE - In a recent podcast episode, Republican candidate for governor Gregg Hull announced his disturbing plan to sell off even more of New Mexico’s clinics and healthcare infrastructure to the highest Wall Street bidder. New Mexico already has the highest proportion of private equity-owned hospitals and nursing homes in the country.
While discussing his idea to use state and federal funds to pay private equity on his podcast [21:37], Hull stated:
“Can we pair those dollars with private equity and have private equity come in and maybe set up the clinic, and then use those dollars to pay those private equity firms. And then once those dollars are gone, then it's private equity that's actually running the facility at that point in time, and you don't leave a burden on local government.”
Hull’s plan is to use state and federal grant funding to allow even more private equity firms to set up and run clinics in New Mexico. Out-of-state corporations worth billions of dollars buy our hospitals, strip them of their assets, and extract them for every ounce of profit. Gregg Hull wants to prioritize profits over the health of our communities, and private equity has no business running healthcare in our state.
“Gregg Hull is telling Wall Street investors that under his leadership, New Mexico will be their piggy bank,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico spokeswoman Mila Myles. “Despite historic assistance from the state legislature, healthcare costs continue to skyrocket. Why? Because private equity companies take our money, cut services, and then destroy untold lives. If Gregg Hull is elected, it will only get worse.”
Meanwhile, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland’s plan aims to do the opposite: keep Wall Street out of our doctor's office and lower costs for all New Mexicans. Rather than allowing private equity to run New Mexico’s hospitals, Haaland will set limits on how much of any local healthcare market a single private equity-backed firm can control, ensuring medical decisions are made by healthcare providers rather than investors, and empowering the Attorney General to hold private equity accountable. Haaland’s healthcare plan works to protect our healthcare facilities from Wall Street schemes.
